Abstract

Looking at the historical development of the stock market, in addition to fairs and markets, we conclude that they are among the oldest market institutions. After the Industrial Revolution, there was a development of productive forces and relationships as well as the transport of goods through the development of transport. The development of traffic created the preconditions for the development of stock trading. The Serbian Trade Association proposed a law on stock market trade that was adopted in the late nineteenth century. The stock market, at the time of economic conditions, was the driving force behind trading. Its importance is also significant in terms of facilitating, regulating and regulating trade and trade intermediaries. With the changing social trends and trading conditions, the importance of the stock exchange has increased over time and has fallen down to the contemporary role of the Belgrade Stock Exchange. The contemporary role of the Belgrade Stock Exchange will be viewed in the historical context as a place of trade and capital markets in the Republic of Serbia. The conclusion is that the Belgrade Stock Exchange is the driver and indicator of economic trends. Economic indicators in the form of falling and rising prices are a basic indicator of the state of the economy, which, through changes in stock prices and basic stock market indices, reflect market trends in the economy.
