This paper aims to point out the historical and contemporary context of the significance of the stock markets. The main goal of the paper is the theoretical analysis and the role of commodity exchanges in trade, as well as the relationship between stock exchanges and other specialised market institutions. It can be concluded that commodity exchanges in the commodity and capital market in Serbia are the driving force of stock exchange trading. The intention is to achieve effective trade in goods through stock market conditions and standards in order to achieve market objectives. The conclusion is that trading on the stock exchange achieves the expected effect of trade both in terms of reaching the maximum price and the effect of the lowest price for goods in given market conditions, all based on supply and demand
