Relations between Turkey and the European Union are complex because it is based on a political controversial stance on the possibility of accession of this country to the Union. Turkey and the European Union concluded already in 1963 the agreement on association. This country was recognized as candidate to the accession in 1999 on meeting of European council in Helsinki and the negotiation of accession started only in October 2005. However regardless previously disclosed certain European politicians dispute the thesis that Turkey is European country because its capital Ankara is in Asia where she lives 95 percent of Turkish population. There is also a hypersensitive terrain of cultural and confessional differences between Turkey and other EU members. The accession of Turkey can cause an institutional problem in European Union due to the numerous Turkish populations (78 millions). In that case Turkey will be with Germany the biggest country of the Union with the most important number of the deputy s in European Parliament and the great influence in Council when its take decision by qualify majority vote. Turkey has also problem with respect of human and minority rights and do not recognize the Republic of Cyprus. Due to the above stated reasons, the Turkish entry into the European Union is extremely uncertain.
