The main goal of this paper is presentation and analyzis of the characteristics of youth delinquency in Novi Sad in the framework period 1945-1965, with a primary focus on the topic of delinquent gangs. In the first chapter, the author consideres general features of this phenomenon in the marked period. The second chapter contains a display of several characteristic delinquent groups that were then operating in Novi Sad. The third chapter focuses on the general criminological analysis of the distinguished features of the aforementioned groups and their members. Among other things, it was noticed that the features of local gangs only partially coincide with the features of the same delinquent groups in the cities of North America and parts of Western Europe (ie those delinquent groups that formed the basis for the formation of key criminological theories of youth delinquency in the first two decades after World War II). On the other hand, there were pointed out numerous features of local gangs which differ greatly from those of the "western" youth gang models. It was concluded that the reasons for the existence of the described local features should be sought primarily in general socio-political and socioeconomic factors, taking into account both the particularities of the entire former Yugoslav society, as well as the additional specifics of the post-war Novi Sad itself. On the basis of everything discussed, it was also concluded that the leading foreign criminological theories and attitudes devoted to the phenomenon of delinquent gangs have a limited possibility of application when attempting to explain the local delinquency of young people in the period 1945-1965. Hence, it is needed to search for additional, alternative theoretical explanations that would more closely respect the local specifics, and therefore could more accurately examine all the factors that contributed to the emergence and expansion of the mentioned phenomenon in domestic area.
