Abstract

Starting from the definition of bicameral representatives as legislative bodies composed of two different houses where the debate is taking place and decisions are made in separate sessions, the Paper first deals with question how much bicameralism has a great impact on relations between legislative and executive power as two of the three main branches of government in modern states, and then it obseerves the degree of its presence in the modern world. Then, the Paper gives overview of historical development and the types of modern bicameralism. The second part of the Paper provides a cross-section of contemporary negative critical and apologetic thoughts on bicameralism, as well as their main arguments. Final considerations in the Paper, on the basis of everything previously presented, give an overview of the possible reasons for the recurrence of bicameralism from the end of the 20th century to the present day, noting that, in spite of that, bicameralism remains (both theoretically and practically) a controversial institution that is, in contemporary democratic circumstances, still under many suspicions - some of the principle ones, and some for interest reasons.
