Abstract

“Mirrors of Princes” are pre-modern political scripts that formed a distinctive genre during Middle Ages and Renaissance. This paper studies well known Renaissance book of the genre, “„Institutio principis christiani” (The Education of a Christian Prince (1516)) of the greatest humanist of that age, Erasmus of Rotterdam – placing it in the context of his whole opus. Work observes content of his book, ways of used approach, sources and authorities that Erasmus called upon, and the precepts it propagates. Final part of the Paper deals with the significance of Erasmus “Mirror of princes” inside this specific pre-modern genre and its influence on the spreading of humanistic ideas of Renaissance.
