„NEOMEDIEVAL” MODEL OF EXPLANATION OF EUROPEAN UNION`S NATURE

Due to its specific origin, „inventive” development and ways of function, explanations of EU`s nature were interpreted by using many different teorethical positions. Some consider EU as „sui generis” entity, others as „provisory wih federal elements”, as confederacy slowly developing into merged federal state, as „hybrid construction” halfway between international organization and federal state, or as system of „multilevel concordations and interactive relations”. There are numerous opinions which consider all modern „statocentric” positions as unadequate, due to „unmodern nature” (Schmitter) of EU. By following theories of Scmitter and Hedley Bull about the possibilities of evolution of international community into „new medievalism”, Ian Zielonka forumulates alternative „neomedieval” concept of explanations of contemporary EU, using also contemporary „theories of Empires” (Herfried Munkler). This work gives detailed study of Zielonka`s „neomedieval” assumption built on dichotomies which confronts concepts of „Westphalian Superstate” and „neomedieval Empire” with intention to describe evolutive results od contemporary EU, as his views on social and political causes which have led to such supranational instutionalisation, and, also, its perspectives.
