Abstract

The Paper examines the significance and impact of Spengler's cultural morphology (which was published over a hundred years ago) on contemporary social sciences and their current explorations of social and historical processes. The first part of the Paper gives an overview of the social context in which Spengler's “The Decline of West” originated, as well as its impact on contemporaries in the Western world, and then presents Spengler's life and his complete work. The second part of the Paper deals with a critical review of the basic characteristics of Spengler's cultural morphology аnd with the question of how useful it is for the study of contemporary civilizational trends, taking into consideration that it is used by a significant number of contemporary scientific researchers. The final part of the Paper highlights the variety of contemporary social processes that Spengler anticipated in his key work, "The Decline of the West," and the possibilities that his cultural and morphological approach opens for their further study.
