Abstract

Eight centuries of autocephalous Serbian Orthodox Church represents a good cause for the correct interpretation of the image of St. Sava and his work - Svetosavlje, in contrast to the irregularities and inaccuracies that were spreaded about them in past and present times. The first part of the Paper points at two different approaches to the personality of St. Sava - the first one who tries to truly grasp the spiritual dimensions of him and his work and the other who tries to give one of modern perspectives on some of his activities. Second approaches were all based on researchers own ideological worldview and they portrayed one’s subjectively reduced and historically incorrect image of St. Sava. Then the same thing can be seen about Svetosavlje, where on the one hand there is a whole series of inaccurate interpretations about it as a nationalist ideology and ethno-flyingist abberation that has little to do with Orthodox Christianity, while, in contrast, there are views that Svetosavlje is the true, illuminated version of Christian Orthodoxy of Serbian style and experience. Furthermore, the work points to the historical path of Svetosavlje and its main features: the national Church, national state and government, folk culture and defense, all in order to finally pay attention to a series of contemporary challenges that are facing Svetosavlje.
