У овом чланку аутор анализира најважнији политички спис познатог америчког писца Џејмса Фенимора Купера. Амерички демократа је објављен 1838 године као покушај излагања принципа америчке уставности. У њему је Купер дао један и данас занимљив модел конзервативне одбране демократије. Аутор анализира основне црте тог модела попут хијерархије, џентлмена, демагога и породице. Такође се скреће пажња на изузетно савремену методологију коју Купер користи као и на неке значајне увиде који су и данас недовољно схваћени у политичкој теорији, као што је отвореност демократије за малигне стране утицаје.
