Према најновијем извештају Светске банке предвиђа се раст глобалног БДП са 2,4% у 2013. на 3,2% у овој години, те стабилизовање раста БДП на 3,4% и 3,5% у 2015. и 2016, с тим да почетно убрзање одражава снажан успон економија развијених земаља. Економске перспективе већине развијених земаља су добре, и изгледна је синхронизована експанзија у САД, еврозони и Јапану, по први пут од 2010, што ће утицати и на повећање тражње на тржиштима у ЗУР и ‘погурати’ глобални раст у 2014'. најбржим темпом у последње четири године.
Финансијско-економска криза 2007-2008. довела је у питање постојеће глобалне обрасце моћи. Трендови указују да ће економија Кине престићи америчку већ почетком 20-их, али да ће САД ће и наредне деценије остати водећа глобална сила и то захваљујући снажној дипломатији и мрежи савезништава у свету, војној супремацији и доминирајућем културном обрасцу. Европа ће наставити да буде фокусирана на себе, по питањима као што је проширење ЕУ и санирање ефеката кризе. Азија ће остати најбрже растући регион у наредним годинама, будући да су економски фундаменти овог континента у врло добром стању.
