APPLICATION OF ATTRIBUTION THEORY IN PSYCHOLOGY OF RELIGION

Attribution theory is one of the „hot“ theory in the psychology of religion. Focusing on the cognitive mechanisms through which individuals perceive and interpret the causes of events, and own and others experiences, it represents a rich starting point for analyzing the ways and conditions under which the events and experiences in certain cases are attributted to entitys which are religious in nature. The application of attribution theory in the psychology of religion took place quite late, 1980s, whisc is why this area of study suffers from a number of theoretical and methodological problems. In addition to the presentation of recent results in this field of study, special attention is paid to the elaboration of the basic terms and concepts that form the backbone of the study of attribution processes in the field of psychology of religion, and the possibility of using alternative theoretical framework for the study of religious motivations, beliefs, behaviors and actions.
