Abstract

In this paper, we will analyze the influence of geopolitical doctrines of Atlanticism on the state of affairs in the Middle-eastern region with a special focus on Iran. The importance of this region is seen in decade-long interests of great powers for oil fields and natural gas sources that are plentiful in the territory of the Fertile Crescent. At the beginning, the author will mark off the politicological and geopolitical characteristics of Iran and it's position in the region. The second part of the paper will follow the historical course of United States-Iran relations from the end of the Second World War until the Islamic Revolution in 1979. with the goal of highlighting the important events which lead to the worsening of the relations of the two countries, geopolitical turmoil, and revolution. In the final part of the study, the Islamic Revolution's geopolitical implications on United States-Iran relations would be analyzed regarding the period from 1979. until today. The author will follow the political decisions of US administrations towards Iran and the Middle Eastern region in the specified period to indicate the important geopolitical characteristics and goals of the United States foreign policy.
