ALTERNATIVE SANCTIONS IN THE CRIMINAL LEGISLATION OF SERBIA

The first part deals with the historical development of alternative sanctions since 1872 and the first mention of alternative sanctions at the Congress of the International Association for Penalties and their enforcement throughout a number of United Nations Congresses on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of crime offenders and to the implementation of our legislation regarding those mentioned.
The second part deals with the conceptual definition of alternative sanctions and their characteristics . The third part is the purpose of these measures and their dual functions within the Serbian legislation. Then this paper discusses the types of alternative sanctions in the legislation of Serbia, meaning, the work in the public interest, house arrest and suspended sentence with protective supervision.
