Abstract

Despite the fact that the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001 marked a turning point in the fight against terrorism and directed the international community to undertake extensive measures to curb it, contemporary Islamic, religious fanaticism and terrorism are on the rise. This phenomenon escalated as a global threat and became the prevailing model for political violence in the name of religion. The destructive power of Islamic religious terrorism is reflected in the brutality of terrorist acts with a large number of innocent victims and severe material devastation, as well as the consequences of a constant fear of new attacks. Therefore, European responses to the challenges of Islamic religious terrorism must be confronted with the fact that it is firmly rooted in individual and collective identity, ruthless and cruel to the choice of objectives and the pursuit of actions that are in evident expansion.
