Abstract

Reduction of world energy reserves and their projected increase in consumption in the future will boost competition in energy markets. Strengthening of competition is expected in the segment of energy production (investments in new sites / sources), as well as in the segment of transport (transit) and consumption. The interconnection of big consumers and producers, will be expressed, as well as their desire for diversification. Consumers will strive for diversification of supply sources and energy delivery routes, while manufacturers will strive for diversification of consumers with maximum avoidance of transport energy through the territory of third countries (transiters).

The Russian Federation, as a major producer and exporter of energy products, uses various comparative advantages and different bilateral and multilateral agreements and places energy security in the function of Russian foreign policy. Taking into account the complexity of modern international relations, in which the world powers use all available mechanisms for the realization of their own interests, the question arises as to what extent does the Russian Federation use energy security as a factor of foreign policy?

The aim of the paper is to in the light of contemporary international relations comprehensively comprehend the energy policy of the Russian Federation, as a factor of foreign policy . The importance of the paper is reflected in an attempt to formulate theoretically the complexity of the energy security of the Russian Federation as a factor of foreign policy.
