Perceiving the expansion of Islamic extremism that spilled the world at the beginning of the 20th century, and whose bearers of the Islamic terrorist organization are embodied, first of all, in Al-Qaeda and the Islamic state, its indirect and immediate impact on the state of security in the Republic of Serbia is noticed. As the Republic of Serbia is integrated into the international community with a large number of international agreements, and also with the geographical position itself, the fact is that the Republic of Serbia is a European state that faces numerous security threats, many of which are related to the functioning of various forms of extremism.
This paper is based on research, understanding of Islamic extremism from several aspects and providing an answer to the problematic question: "What are the possible strategies for fighting Islamic extremism in the Balkans?" Bearing in mind that the region of the Balkans and Southeastern Europe falls within the range of neuralgic points on the global security scene, which is very suitable for the development of Islamic extremism, in the paper will be highlighted and possible strategies for opposing Islamic extremism in the Balkans, which, with certain adjustments and adaptions, can be applied to any region world wide. In addition to this, this paper also examines the fact that in some spheres of life there has been a permanent security threat due to the actions of Islamic extremism and that there is a real possibility of disturbing the security of the whole region.
As modern society evolves, in parallel with this process, the needs and security challenges are developed also, primarily in terms of quality planning and information dissemination. This paper also discusses the need for a quality analysis of modern methods proven by Islamic terrorism, which implies the quality of collecting and processing of intelligence data that can predict the actions of Islamic extremists.
In particular, the paper points out that the cooperation between the intelligence and security services in the region is necessary in order to preventive action, but also to successfully oppose all forms of Islamic terrorism. Synchronized activities of the intelligence and security services of the countries of the region bring many advantages, because the continuous coordinated work creates pressure on the bearers of Islamic terrorism, and such work provides the primary conditions for effective and unrelenting opposition to Islamic terrorism not only in the Balkans, but also in the international community. Consequently, the possibility of exercising influence on other extremist organizations and their behavior which is not securely acceptable.
