DIGITISATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN PUBLIC LIBRARIES OF CENTRAL SERBIA –STATE AND PERSPECTIVE

Digitisation of public library funds is one of the most important processes that ensure the protection, preservation and presentation of cultural heritage. In Serbia, this process is uneven. In the National Library of Serbia, digitisation is being intensively performed and a rich digital library has been formed. On the other hand in many public libraries the process of digitisation of materials has not even begun. The paper presents the results of the research which determined the number of public libraries that started the process of digitisation of their funds and the scope and structure of digitized material. The results of the research are quantitatively presented and the analysis and classification of the contents of digital collections is performed.
