SLUČAJ ROU PROTIV VEJDA: DRUŠTVENE OKOLNOSTI KOJE SU DOVELE DO LEGALIZACIJE ABORTUSA U SAD

Пресуда у случају Роу против Вејда однела је највише живота у историји судства – а такође и у историји Сједињених Држава. Од доношења пресуде 1973. до почетка 2018. чак 60 милиона нерођене деце страдало је у абортусима у Сједињеним Америчким Државама. Уместо обећаног осећања контроле над сопственим телом, којим би се жене „изједначиле” с мушкарци-ма, овај „избор” је милионима жена донео кајање, тугу и непролазни бол. Да бисмо разумели како је до ове пресуде дошло, морамо узети у обзир личност саме Џејн Роу, у чије је име поступак покренут, али и дешавања у Сједињеним Америчким Државама прошлог века.
Овако важна пресуда, која се тиче оног најсветијег и најдрагоценијег – људског живота, донета је пре појаве ултразвука који је први омогућио поглед у материцу за време трудноће и недвосмислено показао људскост нерођеног детета још од веома ране трудноће. Иако су и тадашњи медицински уџбеници тврдили да живот почиње зачећем, технолошки и медицински напредак пружио нам је увид у непобитне чињенице које ту тврдњу поткрепљују. Неопходно је да модерно друштво разговара о овој теми и преиспитује ранија убеђења. Многе жене које су урадиле абортус изјавиле су да су се осећале не као да су разборито одабрале једну од понуђених могућности већ као да нису ни имале избора. Стога је од кључне важности да сви актери у друштву помогну женама тако што ће им пружити више избора, а не само смрт детета.
