2019 EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS – ESTONIA, LATVIA, LITHUANIA
Keywords:
Baltics, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, European Union, European Parliament, elections, EuroscepticismAbstract
The aim of this article is to present electoral background, logistics, and results of the elections for the so-called „European Parliament“ (in fact, the Parliament of the European Union) held in May 2019 in three the so-called „Baltic States“ – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. However, the real importance of these three states for the European Union is only of the geopolitical but not of economic, natural resources or technological nature as they are bordering Russia – old/new enemy of the West. The elections for the Parliament of the European Union are not of high importance in the Baltics for the very reason that the influence of these three nations on the common politics of the European Union is very weak. On the other hand, the electoral results in the „Baltic States“ are not of significant importance for the „Brussels bureaucracy“.
