Abstract

This paper deals with the increasing of so-called thanatourism with the death as a primary driver (directly or indirectly), i.e. with the impact of mediamediated violence which, in turn, encourages this kind of tourism. In the form of direct transmission (the live program, news, etc.) viewer is in some way (potential) (co)participant – the recipient of true or pseudo true events. If we start from the presumption that viewers of television programs is a passive observer to whom is blunted critical thinking and who receive information without selection, accustomed to the daily scenes of violence, he experiences a kind of catharsis through (in)directly participation in the violence and, on the other hand, in him increases the need to participate in the war (death) alive. Given the increasing interest in this new and emerging aspect of tourism, there are more and more tour operators that offer packages with a high level of risk. Also, it is notable increasing in scientific debates and criticism about this kind of mass tourism.
