THE MEANING OF SECESSION IN THE ERA OF GLOBALIZATION
Keywords:
self-determination, secession, globalization, national state, sovereignty, governanceAbstract
Contemporary political theory and science offer only modest results and knowledge about the phenomenon of secession. On the other hand, in terms of political practices, it is an actual phenomenon which often causes conflicts. Legal regulations, at a national, as well as international level, are quite vague and generalized, which makes space for different and often conflicting interpretations. This imprecision arises from the complex political and social issues on which there are no clear-cut answers. Therefore, the purpose of this article is the actualization and political observation of the phenomenon of secession. This includes analysis of the meaning, motives, conditions and determining factors of the secession. The paper also presents the controversies between secession and the nature of the modern state.
