Abstract

This article was created in an attempt to initiate a proper and adequate national cultural policy towards the intangible cultural heritage. The link between creative industries and intangible heritage in Serbia is still not recognized. There are many reasons and potentials that represent a solid base for linking this part of the heritage with creative industries:

  • Serbia is a country of long-standing oral tradition
  • Serbia is the space of coexistence of different ethnic communities
  • Serbia has a great diaspora

The development of the mainly poor, marginal and rural areas should be encouraged by the formation of creative ideas, creative industries and creative entrepreneurship. In this way, small local culture will become recognized within and outside the national borders.
