Abstract

The role of the media as an agent of socialization has become increasingly influential in the process of shaping attitudes and behaviors. In response to the expansion of information technology and computer-mediated reality, media literacy should be introduced as a compulsory subject on all levels of formal education. The paper also reflects on the history of mass communication tools, the knowledge of which should be a part of general education and culture. Furthermore, the research examines claims about the negative impact of products of mass culture and mass media, as well as their role in the inversion of reality and reflection on social communication and social action. A socially and emotionally insecure individual is more susceptible to media influence. Therefore, developing critical thinking and creative skills is important for teaching individuals how to protect themselves and how to eliminate any unilateralism and take advantage of technological innovations. Finally, in the discussion and conclusion, it is noted that an initiative for the introduction of this subject as a compulsory one has existed before, however, current situation requires a more active social media-education strategy.
