The administrative reorganization of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia is shared in to nine Banovinas. The Danube Banovina hold down the territories of Vojvodina, Baranja and Sumadija, and Novi Sad was designated for its administrative center. In all banners, the authorities had intended to build palaces for the needs of housing and functioning of banovinas administrations. Construction of the palace in Novi Sad started in 1929, but after the competition for the choice of the architectural solution, the jobs were suspended. The reason for postponing the beginning of construction was the Great economic crisis, the consequences of which were overturned only in 1936. The palace was built according to the ideas of the artworks Dragiša Brašovan whose draft was not selected at the official competition. The price of its construction has increased over time due to unplanned bending, as well due to changes in the project, and the difference in the prices of building materials. The main reason, however, was the desire of the authorities to make the palace great and to dominate the city center. The long duration of construction and the high price paid was caused by dissatisfaction with the part of the public. The controversy over whether such a costly building was needed by the people was run on the pages of daily newspapers. Finally the palace was moved in 1939 and from the first day it became one of the symbols of the city of Novi Sad. Even now, ninety years later, the purpose for which it was built was made, and its beauty did not diminish the flow of time.
