Abstract

This paper aims explore and explain the ethical challenges and moral justification of implementation of the equality of outcome principle in the specific institution of the military. Author identifies and defines various ideas of equality and analyzes their moral justification from two basic ethical perspectives – deontological and utilitarian, and continues to outline the phenomenon of political correctness in modern liberal democracies which includes the idea of equality of outcome. Equality of outcome implies negation of equality of opportunity, and aims to guarantee equal representation and equal success of all identities in all fields, which is realized via creation of minimal quotas. By analyzing the implications of the use of the equal outcome principle and implementation of minimal quotas for various identity groups in the military, this paper aims to demonstrate the lack of its moral justification, as well as the damage caused by acting on political correctness in this context. Furthermore, author also criticize a part of the community within social sciences, which he identifies as responsible for the creation of such a political-ideological narrative that insists on political correctness articulated as equality of outcome.
