Abstract

The paper presents the results of research of perception of security problems of convicted persons serving prison sentences. Cause is comprised 120 persons who are serving their sentence in a closed ward of the District Prison in Novi Sad. Analysis of attitudes was carried out using a specially designed questionnaire that was over 15 items determined the attitudes towards formal legal framework to maintain security and discipline, the problem of violence among prisoners, the issue of violence against members of the security service, as well as to certain preventive strategies given context. Research results indicate the ineffectiveness of the existing legal framework in terms of security challenges, the presence of all forms of violence in prisoners' collective, as well as complex multiple challenges that are in front of officials in terms of suppressing the respective phenomenon.
