DEMOGRAPHIC CHALLENGES AND IMMIGRATION

Significant number of European countries that have experienced second demographic transition are facing with long-term fertility decline, increasing of life expectancy and intensive population ageing, which imply different economic challenges of society (harvesting working-age population and rasing number of old end oldes-old population). In the second decade of 21st century European countries are facing with one new challenges and social dimension related to migration, one of the most severe migrant crisis in modern history. The main aim of this paper is to explore demographic challenges and immigration in Europe, particulary in European Union. Analysis in this paper is focused mainly on two demographic challenges: low fertility and population ageing.
