QUISLING NEWSPAPER IN SERBIAN LANGUAGE „NOVA POŠTA” AS A MEANS OF PROPAGANDA OF THE HUNGARIANOCCUPATION ADMINISTRATION IN BAČKA IN 1941. AND 1942

Abstract

„Nova pošta“ was the only Serbian language newspaper in Novi Sad during the fascist occupation of the city in World War II. The goal this paper is to shed light on all the methods „Nova pošta“ used to collaborate with the occupying authorities, with the goal to pacify Serbian population so that they would peacefully the occupation. This thesis explains the link between newspaper articles and the desire of the occupying authorities tocreate a pro-fascist public opinion, so that citizens would accept the new rulers, rather than fight to liberate the occupied territory. This paper includes the presentation of the media landscape of Vojvodina before the events of World War II, an explanation of the national question and present the facts about events wich led to the occupation of Novi Sad and Bačka. This paper analyses the discours of reporting on the Axis powers, the Allies and their leaders, as well as the Hungarizations of Serbs within the limits of the Hungarian state in war.
