ISLAM AS A FACTOR OF MULTICULTURALISM IN THE IDENTITY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

Тhe paper entitled "Islam as the Factor of Multiculturalism in the Identity of the European Union" will attempt to contribute to the understanding of a complex problem, which has been going for many years and is the subject of serious debate among EU member states. This is the idea of a multicultural society, the ideals of most european countries that have been presented as a condition for the realization of modern democracy. In the main focus of this paper, besides the phenomenon of multiculturalism, there will be Islam, fundamentals and practice of this religion. With careful analysis, we will try to make a conclusion on whether it is possible to assimilate the inhabitants of Islamic religion into the cultural model of Europe, while not losing its Christian form. This question is a challenge for many researchers, especially for the politologists of religion, without whose professional knowledge is almost impossible to analyze a problem that may be one of the most serious the EU has encountered since its inception.
