Abstract

The main topic of this paper is the image of the authorities in the weekly newspapers in the period 2015-2018. Generally speaking, the concept of the image is a construct that unites the dynamic and intense unity of the graphic and the visual, the rational and the rhetorical, the constant and the variable that in representing a particular political actor. The choice of the weekly newspaper as a specific form of print media is not accidental. The weekly newspapers define interpretative codes for understanding actors, events and processes, directly or indirectly directing the reception of political and social life by electronic media. Their influence is always greater than their circulation. The virality of the text inherent in them allows their dynamic diffusion to spread and influence through social media. The Serbian weekly is emphatically critical of the government. They describe and value power from the point of view of either liberal-democratic or national-conservative discourse.

In light of these two discursive formations, the incumbent government, above all its key actor Aleksandar Vucic, emerges as an undemocratic, authoritarian leader who, in addition to disregarding democratic-liberal values, procedures and practices, represents a politician who is both nationally and patriotically dubious.
