PROBLEM OF MORAL DISAGREEMENT – ETHICAL AND CULTURAL RELATIVISM

In this paper, the author first deals with the concepts of cultural and ethical relativism and pluralism. We start from the fact of deep religious, moral, political and ideological divisions, which raises the question of how we can provide the basis for the stability of a society, given that there is no consensus on comprehensive doctrines. The author further discusses adequacy of the position of ethical and cultural pluralism, which is one of the most important distinctive features of modern democratic societies and which is based on the view of ethical and cultural relativism. In the second part of the paper, the author deals with the problem of moral disagreement and universal moral standards.
