The author has analyzed the functioning of the media system in Serbia during 2016th which is based on the use of new media laws. The analysis included the effects of privatization of media organizations in public ownership, practice and implications of cofinancing of privatized and private media organizations with budgetary resources, the functioning of the public media services and media organizations whose ownership status has not been resolved. In the framework of the presented empirical indicators it was concluded that the media system is deconstructed to its complete instrumentalization of oligarchic political entities coupled with the interest groups of capital. Control mechanisms are based on indirect forms of censorship and self-censorship, forms of control of public communication which prevent the establishment of a democratic public sphere in Serbia. The final result is the domination of hegemonic neo-liberal ideology in media contents.
