Abstract

Urban sociology studies historical development of the cities in the sociological context, analyzing interconnection between urban environment and society. One of the main topics in urban sociology is the formation of the first cities, examining this phenomenon in social-historical context. Bogdan Bogdanović, an architect and urbanist, made a significant contribution to the theories of urbanism. In most of his publication, he considered the history of the cities.

Urbanistic Mythologems, his book presented in this paper, represents important urbanistic and sociological work. Writing about history of the city, he compares M and Chinese mythology in order to emphasize social predictors which have influenced rising of the first cities. In this paper we want to emphasize the significance of Bogdanović’s work and to discuss a need for reading his work in sociological key.
