CONTEMPORARY EXTREMIST TENDENCIES IN AP VOJVODINA

Among the most prominent causes of extremism, as the highest positioned are viewed the unfinished urbanization, specific (unsustainable) forms of industrialization, and change of ethnic and demographic structure of society. This should also be added with the social context with dominant inclination towards tradition and history, as well as the feeling of national, ethnic, and cultural marginality. Initially, it could be noticed that some of these particularities are clearly recognizable in contemporary milieu of the northern Serbian province. Turbulent and unregulated migration processes of relatively newer date, mostly affecting AP Vojvodina, only made this problem more complex. At the same time, it should be kept in mind the dissolutive potential of Balkans societies that, in the light of national, ethnic, and religious differences, took a lead related to the one which is progressive and inherent to stable countries of contemporary world. Vojvodina is a symbol of juncture of various cultures, traditions, ethnic origin, and a spectrum of belonging to different denominations of today, and as such, it is considered as a ground for vocational context that bears respect of differences, but it could easily become a training field for quarrels and conflicts. After all, memories about the central Yugoslav republic - Bosnia and Herzegovina, which many considered the “Little Yugoslavia”, whose “advantage” in differences ended with tragic war, are still fresh. After theoretical designation of the problem, the paper will analyze the most significant extremist tendencies in AP Vojvodina today, and then will try to provide directions of significance for overcoming the problem itself.
