Abstract

Тhe paper sets outs to problematize relationship between the spatial (urban) and social solutions for the slums, settlements, within which are incorporated key issues of urban societies-overpopulation, lack of space, poverty, hunger, unemployment, crime, vices. In the paper are exposed social theories which make contribution to understanding structural causes for the emergence of slums and structural solutions for this problem, as well as different urban strategies for solving the problem of slums based on the displacement of the population. It is concluded that the only possible solution is a synthesis of spatial and social aspects of slums by means of cooperation between actors of the urban phenomenon-citizens, political actors, urban planners and economic organizations.
