Abstract

English language instruction plays a significant role in the process of educating prospective law enforcement professionals. Apart from acquiring knowledge relevant to their field of study, they should also possess English language skills which would enable them to communicate successfully in a variety of situations.

The paper provides an overview of a variety of strategies that can be employed by ESP course designers in developing classroom materials for teaching vocabulary related to human rights, specifically to students of English for law enforcement. Selected vocabulary from the area of human rights is incorporated into classroom exercises of various types whose aim is to enhance students’ knowledge of specialized terminology necessary for their future profession.
