In compliance with International standards, national normative frameworks define and prohibit discrimination against women in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field. By accepting relevant International acts, States commit themselves to undertake a series of measures - to incorporate the principle of equality of men and women in their legal system. These acts provide the basis for realizing equality between women and men through ensuring women's equal access to, and equal opportunities in, political and public life - including the employment and other social activities. Principle of equality between women and men in this field includes: equal employment opportunities, free choice of profession, equal selection and recruitment conditions, right to access to the public positions, right to promotion, job security, right to professional training, right to equal remuneration for men and women workers for work of equal value, right to social security, etc,. In this context, forms of discrimination such as mobbing, harassment and sexual harassment are particularly regulated and prohibited by national legislation.
In regard to the matter we debated, States are also obliged to establish tribunals and other public institutions to ensure effective protection of women against discrimination. In Serbia, The Commissioner for Protection of Equality has been established, as an independent and specialized state authority aiming to prevent all forms and cases of discrimination, to oversee the enforcement of antidiscrimination regulations, and to improve realization and protection of equality.
