This paper is about a new role of a school library in the Republic of Serbia in the 21st century and a communication strategy for its promoting. Due to changes which are caused by a computer use, especially the Internet, which affected the whole educational system, modern teaching process should use the school library as a media centre. It should meet specific librarian and informational standards, and be open for all its users in school itself and also outside of it. The changes in the way the school library works should be promoted both in school and in a local community by using the communication strategy in order to attract potentially new users, and to introduce the educational system to a higher level, according to modern tendecies in educational processes.
