SERBIAN-CHINESE RELATIONS IN THE EVE OF SERBIAN ACCESSION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION
Keywords:
European Union, China, Serbia, strategic partnership, crisis, Mechanism of cooperationAbstract
As a result of the global economic crisis in 2008 and 2009 and the need for investments China has become a stable economic partner in Europe. Unprepared to enter the EU market, due to a lack of regulations and standards, and unwilling to adapt quickly, China has put the focus of its interests in Central and Eastern Europe with which in it started a cooperation mechanism in 2012, as a kind of preparatory step. However, the skepticism and concern of European leaders on the one hand, and the desire for deeper cooperation on the other, do not provide a clear framework for the cooperation of the countries of this region with China. Serbia, a candidate for EU membership, but still without strict obligation to respect European regulations and standards fully, as a strategic partner of China is the leader of the region by Chinese investments and projects started, failing to use its specific political position.
