Abstract

The first part of the paper critically analyzes the relationship between realist and constructivist paradigm in the treatment of international relations. In addition, emphasis is placed on the affirmation of the impact of ideas, identities, norms and culture of the international system. In this sense, the second part of the paper deals with the construction of national identity and its influence on the formulation of foreign state interests. The paper concludes that national identity is constantly formulating and reformulating, and that it affects the perception of the national interest, which, in turn, dialectically treat both the domestic and the foreign, international perspective .
