THE PROBLEM OF SEXUAL EXPLOITATION - DARK SIDE OF GLOBALIZATION
Keywords:
globalization, human trafficking, sexual exploitation, forced prostitutionAbstract
Many people believe that globalization represents complex economic issues that occur far away from them and at the same time are affecting someone else. Some of the people are aware that globalization has a powerful influence on us in many aspects of our lives. Globalization is often considered to be responsible for creating a gap between the rich and the poor while there are prerequisites that, in some countries, certain parts of the poor population are at risk of becoming victims of trafficking. By viewing globalization and problems of „modern slavery” through the mentioned aspects, in this paper we point out the current statistics on the global, European and national level (e.g. of the Republic of Serbia), which attempts to show the level of risk of sexual exploitation as a major international problem. Special attention will be devoted to comparison of sexual exploitation and important cultural and sports events as well as the security challenges in terms of identifying victims of human trafficking. The problem of sexual exploitation is an extremely complex issue because it is the most common form of human trafficking and it does not only happen within one country. It is estimated that around 99 billion dollars is earned from the victims of sexual exploitation, as one of the most profitable global crime activities.
